The New York Mets extended their strong recent form with a 7-2 victory over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night. Initially considered potential sellers at the upcoming trade deadline, the Mets now boast a 42-41 record and are just one game behind in the National League wild card race.
In the game, Mets’ shortstop Francisco Lindor went 2-for-5 with a home run, scoring two runs and adding an RBI. With his batting average now at .249 for the season, his home run also elevated him in baseball history, placing him just two homers shy of entering the top 10 in that category.
Lindor, aged 30, has been a standout player over the last decade, earning All-Star honors four times and winning three Silver Slugger awards. He’s also garnered two Gold Glove awards and a Platinum Glove, and has received MVP votes in six different seasons.
In Wednesday night’s matchup, the Mets and Nationals will face off again at 6:45 p.m. ET, with Christian Scott (NYM) pitching against Mitchell Parker (WAS).
